Martin Sheen has confirmed that he will return for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 despite the fact that his character Uncle Ben died in the first movie.
“They’ve called me back, I don’t know what the part is gonna be, but I’m going to be Uncle Ben once again in Spider-Man next year,” Martin Sheen told Ireland’s “The Late Late Show” on RTÉ Television.
Sheen will most likely appear in flashbacks as Spider-Man continues his manhunt for the gunman, with the star tattoo on his wrist, responsible for Uncle Ben’s death.
Sheen joins Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and new additions Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, and Jamie Foxx as the villain Electro. Sally Field is expected to reprise her role as the ever inquisitive Aunt May.
The sequel tells the continuing untold story of Peter Parker (Garfield) who was abandoned by his parents as a boy and his compelling dilemma: continue his burdensome, lonely life of crime-fighting as Spider-Man, or pursue love and happiness with Gwen Stacy.
The new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.
